A global player in the aircraft industry, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, has recently taken out a three-year planned maintenance contract with the service division of ICS Cool Energy Ltd; ICS Service will be maintaining chillers at the manufacturer's site in Gloucester.
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty is an integral part of the international high-technology group Safran. The company combines advanced engineering with integrated systems technology to deliver innovative solutions; supplying both efficient and environmentally responsible landing gear equipment for a range of commercial and military aircraft. The Gloucester-based production site operates 24-hour a day, with a number of large tooling machines and over 40 chillers running continuously. The chillers are used to cool the machine tool hydraulic oils and the high-speed spindles on critical routing machines. In the event of equipment downtime, ICS Service offers 24/7 emergency breakdown and technical support, ensuring that there is no unnecessary production stoppage.
Mike Jones, Service Director explains: "We offer planned maintenance for all chillers including the non-ICS branded equipment at Messier-Bugatti-Dowty's site. The contract we have with them includes two annual maintenance visits to ensure that everything is running smoothly, as well as discounted parts and labour for any work that does need to be carried out. We provide log books with each chiller to show servicing and maintenance history on each part." Wayne Evans, Facilities Team Leader at Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, comments "We have been very happy with the support provided by ICS Service. It is particularly reassuring to have a dedicated engineer, who knows our equipment, working onsite. It's a simple, yet effective time-saver from my perspective. Before our contract with ICS Service, we had continual breakdowns, yet with the service contract in place now, the call outs have been reduced and machine up-time has improved due to regular maintenance." He added that ICS Cool Energy ltd is their preferred supplier for new and replacement chillers due to service continuity and spares support.
ICS Service has over 3,500 units nationwide to contract ranging from 1,500kW chillers for -40°C clean room freezers and is conversant with almost every industry sector. ICS Service is constantly striving to improve procedures and has recently invested in back office systems to ensure efficient scheduling, electronic data transfer and automated parts allocation.
