Specialists in New and Recycled Tanks and Drums

As a provider of new and recycled oil and water tanks for over 40 years, Smiths of the Forest of Dean Ltd are well placed to develop solutions for changes in liquid storage within the maintenance industry. Adblue is an additive, which over the last few years has become a requirement for the majority of lorries, trucks, buses, coaches and agricultural machinery. This has happened as a result of European law making it a legal requirement for vehicle diesel exhaust emissions to be reduced to a certain level. It already covers a wide range of vehicles, which is constantly growing and will soon include all new construction and plant equipment, light commercial vehicles and some passenger cars.

“With the growing requirement to use Adblue there has been a rise in products that can hold and dispense Adblue into vehicles, but such products can be notoriously expensive.  We have developed an upcycling solution based on a recycled IBC tank which is environmentally friendly, inexpensive and looks as good as new,” said Neil Smith, Product Developer.

Adblue, an exhaust fluid, composed of urea and de-ionized water, needs to be stored in specialised containers where there must be no contact with particular metals. This is also important for the dispensing solutions too, where specialised materials are again required for the pumping and dispensing to the required vehicle or container. As popularity increases there has also been an increase in these storage and dispensing solutions. Where initially there may have only been a few product options to store and dispense Adblue the cost of doing so was relatively high. Now with increased popularity there are more and more cost effective-options to store and dispense Adblue, from 200 litres up to 5000 litres.

Neil continued.  “What we have been trying to provide is a cost-effective product which enables operators to store, dispense, and when required, transport Adblue even when electricity is unavailable.  This is the only product we are aware of, on the market, that can do this.”

Companies can opt for an electrified or hand pump, whichever best suits them.  The 640 litre IBC tank is fork truck manoeuvrable, safe and spill free with calibration markings on the tank.
